FORMER MARION COUNTY SHERIFF UTTERBACK AND WIFE ARRESTED IN COURT FOR CHALLENGING COURT JURISDICTIONPrineville, Crook County, Oregon - On Tuesday, March 2, 2004 Former Marion County Sheriff Jack Utterback and his wife Dixie appeared in the Crook County Courtroom of Judge DANIEL AHERN. The Utterbacks had been ordered to appear to stand trial for numerous zoning code violations. The ordeal the Utterbacks have endured at the hands of an arrogant and abusive county was described by the Utterbacks when they appeared February 24, 2004 before a Special Grand Jury.
When they say a "Special Grand Jury", they actually mean a vigilante "common law court". An excerpt from this article says:

The Utterbacks entered the courtroom with 7 supporters including Weidner, Gaston, Patricia Wishon, Jason Wheeler, Tony Martin and Wishon's sister and husband. Weidner told everyone to remain standing until the judge came in so there would be no voluntary public acknowledgement when Judge Ahern entered the room. While standing Weidner obtained the name of Dep. DA RAMEY and court guards Sgt RUSS WRIGHT and Under Sheriff HENSLEY. Judge Ahern entered the room and only Ramey moved when Ahern entered the court. Ahern in a stern orderly way read the Utterback case number into the record. Dixie and Jack stepped forward and she informed Ahern that Jack was hard of hearing and she would be speaking. Dixie Utterback then at the prompting of Weidner read into the record the information in the Special Appearance she had filed with the court. Utterback read Supreme Court caselaw in that document that states if the jurisdiction is challenged all proceedings must cease until jurisdiction is established. This is the most basic right of a freeborn people to insure that constitutioanl judicial due process is being adhered to. Utterback said it was not a lawful court if the jurisdiction could not be stated. She and Jack then said they were leaving the court.
When looney Dixie Utterback says "Special Appearance" she is talking about her appearance in a "common law court". Jack Utterback and his wife were arrested after telling the judge they weren't under the jurisdiction of state courts or state government. Now let's see what witless Wishon decides to do.

Why Apologetics is ImportantThe issue that’s been floating around various blogs has cropped up in the comments section on our site, so I thought I would address it from my fully fallible point of view. Why is apologetics important? Some would ask, why would anyone argue over points of doctrine? (On our site several have suggested that God could care less about “denomination” or “religion”).
I actually think the question betrays the spirit of our age. We are often offended by those who hold to a certain truth and believe that others should likewise adhere. Our complete acceptance of relativism allows us to suggest that for some Catholicism is not the answer and perhaps they should choose another “denomination.” I disagree with this.
The best way to consider this issue is through metaphor. Imagine we must all swim across the English channel and you have a boat whereas others don’t. They might be able to swim across on their own, but clearly the boat is the easier way. If you don’t tell others about your boat, it probably indicates you don’t care very much, correct? Yet, if you tell them about the boat and they think swimming is easier, they’re likely to label you “argumentative” or too “rigid.” So what is the answer? Clearly, you take the heat and mention the boat – perhaps just one will decide to take your route.
This is exactly where I see us. The Catholic church has the sacraments, which were designed by God to help us get to heaven. It’s not impossible to get to heaven outside the Church, but it is more difficult. In addition, Christ has called us all to be evangelists, missionaries, taking the light of the Gospel to the world. A great harvest is ready, if we will but labor in the fields. Combining these truths leads you to the inevitable conclusion that you must tell others about this wonderful gift you have: the gift of Christ Crucified and His Church. It’s not that we like arguing (quite the contrary), it’s that we are so elated we can’t keep our mouth shut.
Personally, I grew up as a protestant. I sincerely sought the will of God in my life. If no one had pointed out the truth of the Catholic church, I would likely still be swimming the English channel. However, I believe the Holy Spirit led others to speak to me, so that I might speak to others. To whom much is given, much is expected; and I was given much more than I could ever repay.
This is why we do this. The Catholic church is not another “denomination.” The Catholic church is the one true church founded by Christ that offers the sacraments to the world. This blog costs money, time, energy, and emotion, and yet I am compelled to continue offering the simple truth that I have been taught through the Holy Spirit by those He sent to me.

Yesterday I was out vacuuming the swimming pool. After every storm or windstorm leaves get into the pool and cause all sorts of problems, including algae. When I vacuum the pool I use this long metal pole. As I was vacuuming the pool trying to figure out a way to get my two daughters and their mother out of Roger Weidner's sick, evil, disgusting, delusional, hate-filled cult...BAM...lightning and thunder.

Both posts will add to anybody's knowledge about the causes for the Civil War.
There is a story in Willamette Week that details how Neil Goldschmidt comitted felonies for a couple of years many years ago when he was mayor of Portland, Oregon. Neil has admitted to committing the crimes he did twenty or thirty years ago. There have been reports that the statute of limitations for those crimes means he can't be prosecuted.
However.....however......however, Neil was also involved in a conspiracy with numerous persons to coverup the felonies he committed. According to Oregon State Statutes a conspiracy can be an ongoing for many years. I'm not a lawyer but it would seem to me that Neil Goldschmidt and others conspired to cover up, for about twenty or thirty years, the felonies he committed with a minor many years ago.
It would also seem that this conspiracy went on until just recently, which would mean the statute of limitations for the felony of committing a conspiracy or conspiracies is not up yet.
161.450 “Conspiracy” described. (1) A person is guilty of criminal conspiracy if with the intent that conduct constituting a crime punishable as a felony or a Class A misdemeanor be performed, the person agrees with one or more persons to engage in or cause the performance of such conduct.(2) Criminal conspiracy is a:
(a) Class A felony if an object of the conspiracy is commission of murder, treason or a Class A felony.
(b) Class B felony if an object of the conspiracy is commission of a Class B felony.
(c) Class C felony if an object of the conspiracy is commission of a Class C felony.
(d) Class A misdemeanor if an object of the conspiracy is commission of a Class A misdemeanor. [1971 c.743 §59]
161.455 Conspiratorial relationship. If a person is guilty of conspiracy, as defined in ORS 161.450, and knows that a person with whom the person conspires to commit a crime has conspired or will conspire with another person or persons to commit the same crime, the person is guilty of conspiring with such other person or persons, whether or not the person knows their identity, to commit such crime. [1971 c.743 §60]
161.465 Duration of conspiracy. For the purpose of application of ORS 131.125:(1) Conspiracy is a continuing course of conduct which terminates when the crime or crimes which are its object are completed or the agreement that they be committed is abandoned by the defendant and by those with whom the defendant conspired.
(2) Abandonment is presumed if neither the defendant nor anyone with whom the defendant conspired does any overt act in pursuance of the conspiracy during the applicable period of limitation.
(3) If an individual abandons the agreement, the conspiracy is terminated as to the individual only if and when the individual advises those with whom the individual conspired of the abandonment or the individual informs the law enforcement authorities of the existence of the conspiracy and of the participation of the individual therein. [1971 c.743 §62; 1973 c.836 §340]
131.155 Tolling of statute; three-year maximum. Notwithstanding ORS 131.145, in no case shall the period of limitation otherwise applicable be extended by more than three years. [1973 c.836 §9]
And what might the conspiracy be about? Check out the following.
162.325 Hindering prosecution. (1) A person commits the crime of hindering prosecution if, with intent to hinder the apprehension, prosecution, conviction or punishment of a person who has committed a crime punishable as a felony, or with the intent to assist a person who has committed a crime punishable as a felony in profiting or benefiting from the commission of the crime, the person:(a) Harbors or conceals such person; or
(b) Warns such person of impending discovery or apprehension; or
(c) Provides or aids in providing such person with money, transportation, weapon, disguise or other means of avoiding discovery or apprehension; or
(d) Prevents or obstructs, by means of force, intimidation or deception, anyone from performing an act which might aid in the discovery or apprehension of such person; or
(e) Suppresses by any act of concealment, alteration or destruction physical evidence which might aid in the discovery or apprehension of such person; or
(f) Aids such person in securing or protecting the proceeds of the crime.
(2) Hindering prosecution is a Class C felony. [1971 c.743 §207]
It would also seem that the conspiracy or conspiracies to cover up Neil's crimes crossed state lines. To me it sounds like that could be a reason for a federal investigation.

As new info comes to light, it looks more and more like a coverup. I was in the military for four years so at least I know what it's like to be in the military and I also know that the "higherups" sometimes will find a scapegoat to take the blame when they screw up. The ones who should be held accountable for the illegal actions that took place at the prisons where detainees or prisoners were held should be the commander of the military intelligence command responsible and the commander of the military police command responsible. I just watched the most graphic video of the beheading of Nick Berg, 26, of West Chester, Pa. I can see why the gutless, cowardly murderers wore masks. That's what gutless cowards who need a gang to murder one unarmed civilian do. They hide behind masks. They're not soldiers. They're not freedom fighters. They're not true Jihadists. They are not true followers of Islam.

Man accuses firms of stealing software By Geoffrey Fattah Deseret News staff writer
PROVO — A self-described linguist and programmer has filed a lawsuit against Novell, the Eyring Research Institute and the founders of WordPerfect for a whopping $40 billion, claiming his software was pirated and used to create WordPerfect as well as some of Novell's first military missile programs.Bruce Wydner of Eden, Weber County, and his brother, Roger Weidner, filed the suit last fall against Novell, Eyring Research and Bruce Bastian and Allen Ashton, formerly of WordPerfect.
Roger has been talking people into lying in court and filing frivolous lawsuits and telling people to falsely accuse innocent people of all sorts of nonsense for twenty years.
Speaking to the Deseret News, Wydner claims a language translation software that he developed back in 1977 was inspired by passages within the Book of Mormon in which the Ancient Nephites were described as having the ability to decipher any human language through visual cues. In addition to alleging that his software was stolen, Wydner credits his software for ending the Cold War between the United States and Russia.
Another lie.
After working as a linguist at the Pentagon and translating messages for the Central Intelligence Agency, Wydner claims he was recruited by Brigham Young University to conduct research on what was to be known as his "Cost-Effective Machine Translation" software. Pointing to articles done in 1978 by the Deseret News and the Wall Street Journal, Wydner claims he was a part of a project to work on translation software. While at the Eyring Institute, a language translation research group that had its start at Brigham Young University, Wydner said he faced ridicule for his methods by fellow researchers. "I just couldn't work there because people were making fun of me," Wydner said. He also claimed to have taught courses based on his system at BYU.BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said in checking with those associated with the Eyring Institute, which has not been a part of BYU for the last 13 years, Jenkins said there was no recollection of Wydner working there. A search of staff and associate instructor records also yielded no proof that Wydner taught courses at BYU from 1972 to 1973.

But, according to Wydner's suit, it was around 1978 that programmers at the Eyring Institute began using his program without his knowledge. Wydner alleges that several programmers, including WordPerfect founders Bastian and Ashton, used his code to write one of the first highly popular word processing softwares of its time. In addition, programmers also allegedly used the code to devise a missile guidance system for the U.S. Air Force, those programmers would later go on, Wydner claims, to form Novell Corp.Wydner's brother, Roger Weidner, said he is an attorney in Oregon who is helping to file the suit. Weidner said he estimated that Novell had earned about 8 billion in profits annually. Based on that estimate, Weidner said he came up with the multibillion figure for damages.
Roger hasn't been an attorney for years and he wasn't an attorney when this lawsuit was filed or when he appeared in court. Another lie.
"That's basically a guesstimate of what they earned over the past couple of years," Weidner said.But in the face of such outrageous allegations, Wydner said he is simply out to claim credit and profits that he says are rightfully his. When asked why he waited well over two decades to file his suit, Wydner said he was unaware of the alleged scheme to steal his software until December 1999 when a former Eyring programmer came forward and told him the story.
Wydner is seeking damages totaling $40 billion, for claims of breach of contract, unjust enrichment and fraud.
Yet despite the hefty price tag on this suit, none of the defendants appear to be taking it too seriously. After nearly four months, neither Novell, nor the founders of WordPerfect have bothered to file a response to the suit.
"We have received a copy of the complaint and we believe that it's frivolous," said Novell spokesman Kevan Barney. Barney said Novell attorneys could find no direct claim in the suit against Novell and that Novell planned to seek the dismissal of the suit.
The judge did not rule in Roger and his gang's favor and the forty billion dollars they thought they could rip off from the defendants turned into nothing. The minute Roger and the gang exited the courtroom they were all ready working on another scam. You'd have to be an idiot, like Jim Spinden, to believe anything Roger or members of the gang say about anything. In order for me to go outside without upsetting the neighbors I went and got some hair dye to undo the orange hair my eldest daughter dyed on my head. I bought black hair dye. Now I look even more ridiculous.
I write and read poetry. The ugly woman I divorced in 1980 is mad at me since I never wrote poetry for her. I wrote poetry for the mother of my two daughters and this made the ugly woman I divorced in 1980 even more angry.

I've reread the post by Phil Carter a couple of times (That's right. It's raining and I don't have a life and my hair is still orange) and the following is an excerpt from his post:

Enforced absence My cable internet service has been AWOL all afternoon. A couple of quick items:- Some readers have sent me some really good email today. I've scanned it all but won't have time to read it thoroughly very soon. I really wish I had the time to reply to each one, but sorry, the volume is such that I just can't.
- I am about to leave for one of my periodic ride-alongs with the sheriff's department (I am a voluntreer chaplain). I'm taking my digital camera and if anything exciting happens maybe I'll get some pictures to post.
- I thought Rummy did very well today before the Congressional committees. Note that he emphasized what I posted on three days ago, the problem of command influence on prosecutions. I never was a military lawyer, but I'd say that the command-influence line has been full crossed, more than once, and that successful prosecutions will now be extremely dificult, if indeed they are even possible any more.
I believe that Phil Carter and Donald Sensing have become so involved with their own opinions that they fail to see that there are other opinions.
I never get to use the phone. Part of my rental agreement is that I get to use the phone from time to time. I hardly ever use the phone, so to me it's no big deal. But today I had to call Kaiser Permanente and I couldn't find the phone. My female housemate has the phone all the time and she puts it weird places. I'm hoping I can talk her into letting me know where the phone is so I can use it.

I posted how I voted in the last election. I'm beginning to think that was a mistake. My eldest daughter (age 15) came over to relax and spend the night. We had to get up at 5 AM so we could make it to the bus stop in order for her to get to school on time. She lives with her mother right across the street from the high school but I live a ways away from the school. After dinner she decided to dye her hair (once again) and she managed to talk me into letting her dye my hair. She wants to be a beautician. I used to have a comfortable mixture of grey and auburn hair. Now I have orange hair. I look ridiculous.
From time to time I'll watch "The View". It looks like everybody on the show is having fun. I especially like it when Barbara Walters is on the show.
As you can probably tell, I'll start writing a post and then leave to do something and then come back and resume writing the post.
I'm watching the local news right now and it seems that we have an attorney, Brandon Mayfield, being held by the FBI in connection with the bombings in Spain. Apparently he is a convert to Islam and he goes to a mosque here in Beaverton. According to a person who's somehow connected to the mosque, the mosque is considered to be a pariah in the community. I hope that's not true and that that opinion is just that person's opinion.
To me it's crazy, but I actually have people emailing me telling me what I can and can not put on this lowly blog. I even had a cop call me up and tell me that some of what I put on this blog can be used as a telephonic harassment charge. I don't see how that's possible but, then again, you never know.

Brent Cunningham has an interesting article at the Columbia Journalism Review entitled "Across the Great Divide - Today’s Journalists Are More Isolated than Ever from the Lives of Poor and Working-Class Americans. So What?"

In the January 19 issue of The New Yorker, Karl Rove told the writer Ken Auletta that President Bush thinks the press is “elitist,” that “the social and economic backgrounds of most reporters have nothing in common with those of most Americans.” For decades now, the political Right has made considerable hay out of the liberal elite bogeyman, and such a sentiment from Bush might be dismissed as mere culture-war blather. But class, which is what the president really means, will play a role in the coming election: tax cuts, unemployment, corporate greed, health care, the echo of John Edwards’s “two Americas.”And Bush is right. Sort of. The class divide between journalists and the poor and working-class Americans many of us claim to write for and about is real, though it has little to do with political ideology and is more complicated than the faux populists of the Right would have us believe. Russell Baker, the former New York Times columnist, got closer to the mark in the December 18 issue of The New York Review of Books. “Today’s top-drawer Washington news- people . . . belong to the culture for which the American political system works exceedingly well,” he wrote. “The capacity for outrage had been bred out of them.”
So much for comforting the afflicted and afflicting the comfortable. As Baker points out, we are the comfortable. The demographics confirm it. We are part of the professional class, reasonably affluent and well educated. By 1996, for example, the last time the American Society of Newspaper Editors conducted a broad survey of the U.S. newsroom, 89 percent of journalists had finished college. Meanwhile, only 27 percent of all Americans have four or more years of college, according to the latest census.
Many in the blogosphere spend a little time in fact checking and critizing the media. I even do it from time to time. It needs to be done just to keep the media on their toes.
I guess it's time to get back to chores.
Yesterday I started preparing a room for painting. I've still got to put on the primer and then let that dry and then start painting. But before I did that I had to stain a window frame. I was getting everything prepped outside when it started raining.
Do you know why I was getting everything prepped outside? That's right. Because I'm an idiot. I eventually got the window frame stained. I put on a couple of coats of stain and it looks pretty good.
Now I've got to prep for the primer. Man, I've got to move everything around just to make room for putting on the primer. These do-it-yourself jobs are not as easy as they are depicted on TV. Where's Bob Vila when you really need him?
All the wood has been chopped. Now all I have to do is transport the chopped wood from the backyard to the woodpile. If it doesn't rain it should only take me a few hours to get it done.
I've also spent some hours getting a friend's computer up to snuff. Now it kicks ass. I guess maybe I'm not a completely useless blob of protoplasm. Then again, if you read some of the comments on my blog you might think I'm an evil member of the Illuminati Conspiracy who is helping the evil International Jewish Conspiracy control the New World Order which is enslaving mankind with homosexual Satanic tendencies.
I know Baldilocks is sexy, you know Baldilock is sexy, but, man, I'm telling you, she has got to quit not having sex with guys who have whacko girlfriends.
It's always nice to see a blogger be able to do something worthwhile. While I tend to disagree somewhat with Patterico's politics, I read his blog regularly. So it is with great pleasure I'm able to link to "Patterico Forces Amendment to High-Profile Ninth Circuit Opinion".

I recently got an email (yes, another email) from one of Roger Weidner's groupies. She says there are tons of concentration camps in America and if I become a follower of Roger Weidner, we can get rid of all the concentration camps and make Oregon safe for white people. Also, she says we can get the "14th amendment citizens" to leave.

RE: Melissa Gaston, born May 20, 1990, aka Melissa Maxwell, Melissa Phillips, etc.Will and Pamela, founders of A Voice for Children, have been moving heaven and earth trying to bring justice to Melissa Gaston, natural daughter of Will Gaston, and Pamela’s stepdaughter.
Melissa was kidnapped under color of law in March 1996 from her father’s front yard, by state workers, and subsequently physically, sexually, and emotionally abused in various foster homes. Witnesses testified that Melissa was videotaped by state workers and a foster mother, sexually abused in pornopornography that became the center of a jury trial in Marion County in April, l998. The jury found that the judges, the attorneys, the foster parents and caseworkers, psychologists, therapists were acting in a conspiracy to conceal evidence of criminal abuse to the child while engaging in a criminal operation for profit.
The videotape court record of the jury instruction of Judge Duane Ertsgaard and verdict from that trial can be viewed at www.avoiceforchildren.com. As of 2000, Melissa had been in more than 28 foster homes, with the agency admitting in court that she had been sexually abused in at least three of those homes. What is happening to Melissa is happening to countless other children. Melissa Gaston is the poster child of Oregon’s child abuse industry.
I have come to know Will and Pamela, who are good, loving people. Last Christmas, Will visited my street, Peacock Lane, dressed as Santa. Will and Pamela have helped many other families try to avoid the sad fate that befell Melissa under state custody. Melissa is still missing today. I am starting a new, nationwide search for Melissa Gaston, who may have had her name changed by the state. I plan to interview townspeople in Silverton Oregon where Melissa was last seen. I hope to get the interest of a documentary filmmaker from England who visited recently to interview Roger Weidner for an international documentary on judicial abuse. He knows I am working on my own documentary on the child abuse industry, and is coming back to Portland soon.
I urge anyone who has any information regarding Melissa to contact Oregon Family Rights or A Voice for Children. If you are a state worker and in fear of losing your job, you can send an anonymous tip. Most of all, I just want to know that the girl is ok. I hope she is safe and happy wherever she is. I have posters of Melissa if anyone wants to help distribute them and join in the search.
Some believe Melissa may have been murdered by the same state workers who were involved in her kidnapping and subsequent abuse, in order to keep Melissa from ever telling her story. Hopefully this is not true. The courts have acted to conceal all evidence of this case from the public, although many courtwatchers have been present as the state has retaliated against the Gaston family.
Please, if you have any information regarding this girl, help rest the mind of her father and stepmother, and others who pray regularly for Melissa’s safety and well being.
I am working on a scholarship for Melissa when she turns 18, or if she is never found, for another aged out foster child. I plan to call the scholarship the "Melissa Gaston Freedom Fund".
I recently located the former head of Children’s Services Kay Toran, and though she has declined an interview with me, will continue to petition her to help find Melissa Gaston, as I believe she may have some information on this case.
I also want to enlist the help of Maine foster mom and author Mary Callahan. I worry that Melissa has suffered a fate similar to Logan Marr, who was killed by her foster mom Sally Schoefield several years ago. Mary, if you have any ideas on this, please help us find Melissa.

U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/pub/pdf/jeeus01.pdfSpending by the U.S. criminal justice system hit a record $167 billion in 2001--$20 billion more than the 1999 total, says the Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics. Adjusted for inflation, the increase was about 150 percent over two decades.
Much of the increase was do to corrections costs. The total of state and federal prison inmates rose to 1.3 million in 2001 from only 488,000 in 1985. The number of inmates in local and county jails tripled to 631,000. By contrast, the number of arrests rose was 13.7 million in 2001 compared with 12 million in 1982, and the number of court cases grew only to 92.8 million in 2001 from 86 million in 1984.
Criminologist Alfred Blumstein of Carnegie Mellon University told the New York Times that "states are faced with huge deficits and they are looking to prisons as a prime candidate to save money." Spending on jails and prisons rose to $57 billion in 2001, from $9.6 billion in 1982, the Justice Department report said.
Spending on police and courts grew more slowly, with money for the police hitting $72 billion in 2001 and spending on the courts $38 billion, the report said. In total, the criminal justice system accounted for 7 percent of all state and local government spending in 2001, roughly equal to the amount spent on health and hospitals. The criminal justice system employed 2.3 million people in 2001, 747,000 as jail or prison guards.
Prof. Michael Jacobson of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City said the report was "another indicator, especially on the corrections side, that unless we do something more significant to change our punishment policies, these numbers are going to continue to be out of control." Many states have made in the past two years to cut prison costs have been "minor reformist efforts, just nibbling around the edges," he said.

THE Australian engineer killed in Saudi Arabia was shot dead by Islamic terrorists who worked undercover alongside him, it emerged yesterday.
Anthony Richard Mason, 57, and four other Westerners were gunned down by men who worked as security guards at the giant Exxon Mobil refinery complex in the Red Sea port city of Yanbu. A Saudi was also killed.
A company spokesman said three employees working at the plant entered the site on Saturday, letting in a fourth accomplice through an emergency exit.
The group stormed into the offices of the Swiss-owned oil services company ABB and at point blank-range fired at workers, killing Mr Mason, two Britons and two Americans instantly.
A sixth Saudi man was then shot as the gunmen ran through the sprawling complex firing their M16s and AK-47 assault rifles indiscriminately.
One witness said the gunmen looked like teenagers and appeared to be targeting Westerners.
There was no warning before the shooting although some employees yelled to others: "Take cover, they're shooting."
A third American, a Pakistani and a Canadian were critically wounded. The gunmen then took their stolen Coast Guard jeep and yelled "jihad, jihad" and "we are Mujahaddin" as they fired their weapons out of the windows.
Witnesses said one victim's body was tied to the back of their grey Toyota LandCruiser and dragged for 3km before being dumped outside the Arab British Bank.
A witness said: "The body had all the clothes ripped away except for shreds of underwear and shoes. It was just lying in the gutter. It was horrible to see."
During the ensuing shootouts, eight men from the National Guard and 10 from public security were wounded. Between 25 and 50 people were wounded.
The gunmen fired shots into other office windows and at a McDonald's restaurant before police engaged them in a shootout outside a Holiday Inn.
Three of the terrorists died instantly and a fourth died in hospital from his injuries.
British journalist Michael Cousins said: "They drove through town shooting at everything in sight – cars, people, the lot.
"They also targeted a McDonald's and a hotel, shooting at whatever moved. They seemed to be targeting Westerners."
After the attacks, police moved in to secure Yanbu's streets with checkpoints throughout the city, a resident said.
Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said yesterday it was unclear why the shooting took place but the group may have been linked to al-Qaeda.
"We don't really know who is responsible but you could safely assume [al-Qaeda may be involved]," he said.
An oil executive said the gunmen had targeted the top three officials involved in an upgrading project at the Saudi petrochemical firm YANPET, jointly owned by US Exxon Mobil and Saudi Basic Industries Corp.
Last night it emerged that one of the gunmen was one of the Arab kingdom's most wanted terrorists.
Abdullah Saud Abu-Nayan al-Sobaie, believed to have masterminded the carnage, was killed in the shootout with Saudi security forces.
US officials had warned in recent weeks of possible attacks against foreigners in Saudi Arabia.
Intelligence has suggested al-Qaeda wanted to strike at Saudi oil interests, and Osama bin Laden has called for the overthrow of the Saudi royal family.
It looks like the Saudi government has a war on its hands. I wonder if they've figured this out yet.

I've been watching and reading news reports about the atrocious treatment afforded to some Iraqi prisoners. What on earth were the six soldiers with the 800th Military Police Brigade thinking when they did what they did???!!! Are these morons too stupid to know that one of our objectives is to show the Iraqis the benefits of a free society???!!!! There's reports that the prisoners were actually under the control of intelligence officers. That's a pretty stupid way to gather intelligence. In any event the general in charge should face charges of dereliction of duties:
Article 92—Failure to obey order or regulation Text. “Any person subject to this chapter who—(1) violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation;
(2) having knowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or
(3) is derelict in the performance of his duties; shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”
Elements.
(1) Violation of or failure to obey a lawful general order or regulation.
(a) That there was in effect a certain lawful general order or regulation;
(b) That the accused had a duty to obey it; and
(c) That the accused violated or failed to obey the order or regulation.
(2) Failure to obey other lawful order.
(a) That a member of the armed forces issued a certain lawful order;
(b) That the accused had knowledge of the order;
(c) That the accused had a duty to obey the order; and
(d) That the accused failed to obey the order.
(3) Dereliction in the performance of duties.
(a) That the accused had certain duties;
(b) That the accused knew or reasonably should have known of the duties; and
(c) That the accused was (willfully) (through neglect or culpable inefficiency) derelict in the performance of those duties.
ART. 93. CRUELTY AND MALTREATMENT
Any person subject to this chapter who is guilty of cruelty toward, or oppression or maltreatment of, any person subject to his orders shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
The Vietnam War is over. The Prez and Kerry did not do anything egregious and they exercised their rights as citizens. Kerry's war record speaks for itself and whatever he did as a civilian he had every right to do. If somebody wants to throw away their medals or ribbons, or somebody else's medals or ribbons; what's the big deal? At least they earned them in the first place. They have every right to do whatever they want to do with their ribbons or medals or whatever. This is America, remember.
On Nightline Ted Koppel read the names of those who perished in the Iraq war. There's nothing wrong with that. There's not anything necessarily right with it, either. I don't think reading the names of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country is going to undermine the war. What I find outrageous is the producer saying he wasn't aware when "sweeps week" is. C'mon, give me a break. A producer who doesn't know when "sweeps week" is ..........

DEA Agent Shoots Self During Gun Safety ClassPOSTED: 11:27 am EDT April 30, 2004
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A federal drug agent shot himself in the leg during a gun safety presentation to children and his bosses are investigating.
The Drug Enforcement Administration agent, whose name was not released, was giving a gun safety presentation to about 50 adults and students organized by the Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association, witnesses and police said.
He drew his .40-caliber duty weapon and removed the magazine, according to the police report. Then he pulled back the slide and asked someone in the audience to look inside the gun and confirm it wasn't loaded, the report said.
Witnesses said the gun was pointed at the floor and when he released the slide, one shot fired into the top of his left thigh.
I got my first rifle - a .22 over and under .410 shotgun - when I was ten. We lived in Roswell, New Mexico at the time out near the sticks. Before I got the rifle my father gave me gun safety lessons. He's licensed to do that.
Over the years I've had pistols and various rifles and I've practiced shooting for innumerable hours, both at gun ranges and out in the deserts around Roswell, and later, Tucson.
I've only had a gun go off accidently once. I've never accidently shot anybody and this is probably due to me never pointing any of my guns or rifles at anybody.
