A story in the Washington Post highlights the poverty and broken lies and incompetence of the Bureau of Indian affairs that has gone on way too long. The following is an excerpt.
But skepticism of campaign pledges runs deep in Indian country, given the government's history of broken promises. The federal government has acknowledged that it has grossly mishandled money it began collecting in the late 1880s, when it leased reservation land to oil, mining and timber interests and held the proceeds in trust for Indians.
The government owes Native Americans billions, but a class-action lawsuit filed eight years ago on behalf of nearly 500,000 Indians is still unresolved.
Meanwhile, on Pine Ridge, three and four families live in single-family houses, eight to nine out of 10 people are out of work, and more than half the population, helpless against disconnect notices, has no phone in any given month.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has for decades been a bottomless pit of corruption, incompetence, stupidity, and a place to shove government employees who embarassed other government agencies.
Let's abolish the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Uranium find in Russian dump is the headline of a story in the Times Online. The following is the story.
Washingtonpost.com has a story about how the Democrats and Republican have legions of lawyers ready for battle. This election year has got to be one of the most ridiculous in history. The following are excerpts from the story.
The AntitrustProf Blog, a new blog in town, has a post concerning various bottling laws in a couple of countries in the European Union that seem to be causing problems. The following is an exceprt from the post.
Today's Wall Street Journal reports that the Commission may file a suit against Germany challenging its bottling law, which requires the use of reusable bottles and deposits. The law allegedly limits competition by making it more difficult for foreign competitors to market their bottled beverages in Germany. Part of the problem seems to be lack of harmonization on recycling laws. For example, the article reports that France prohibits the use of reusable bottles for water. Another source of the problem is the practice of some discount retailers to cut back on branded beverages and instead sell their own discount labels, which are easier to return to the discount retailers for reuse. The article states that Nestle has lost about $ 60 million in sales since the law took effect in 1992. The case offers a nice example of the intersection between regulation and competition policy. Although I have not looked at this issue in depth, my sense from the article is that the law is not anti-competitive and the costs described represent the adjustment to new pro-environmental regulation.
There seems to be some more discussion about Oregon's measure 35. The amendment seeks to amend the Oregon Constitution to cap at $500,000 the amount of money a patient may be awarded if the patient wins a lawsuit for negligence or some other factor leading to the patient being hurt.
Ballot Measure 35 would amend the Oregon Constitution to impose a limit on noneconomic damages that may be claimed in certain actions. The measure applies to claims made by injured patients and legal representatives of injured patients, including persons claiming loss of consortium (the loss of the company, affection, assistance and sexual relations of a spouse). The limitation applies only to claims made by such persons against healthcare providers and healthcare entities licensed in Oregon, for injuries incurred while the provider or entity was acting within the scope of the license. The limitation applies to claims based on negligence or recklessness, but does not apply to claims based on intentional injury. Nor does it limit claims for wrongful death.
If a claim is subject to Ballot Measure 35, the measure would impose a limitation of $500,000 (adjusted
annually for inflation) on the amount that can be claimed as noneconomic damages arising from injury to any one
patient that may be recoverable from health care providers or entities.
A lot of healthcare providers seem to like the measure because they, apparently, seem to think this measure would bring down their insurance premiums. There is nothing in the measure that would force insurance companies to give a break to doctors if this measure passes nor is there anything in the measure that would force insurance companies to cap what they can charge doctors.
The HMO's and insurance companies love this measure.
I voted no on this measure for the following reasons.
I live in Oregon House District 28. Last time around I voted for his Republican opponent, Keith Parker. This time around, though, I voted for Jeff Barker. They are both high quality individuals.
I sure wish Keith Parker would run again for something because the guy is pretty smart. Maybe he's too smart to run for political office again because of all the crap one has to put up with.
I have been informed that Keith Parker is running for city council of Beaverton, Oregon. His website is http://www.keithparker.org/.
Jeff Barker's website is here. You know, I'm getting too old for all of these updates. I may have to give up this stupid blog.
I've been reminded that some people have disagreed with some of my choices. One of the members of the Roger Weidner gang reminded me had he had sent the following communication.

Subject: From Pavel GobermanI searched my name on the Internet and get your slime web page. What a garbage, what a lie!. Wu, Deckert, Barker, Wyden, Smith are political prostitutes, selling our country and should be in prison for it. And you are promoting them. What a garbage!
There's more of the gang's opinions here.
I often post about the hatred of our local branch of white supremacists, the Roger Weidner/Victor Oekerman gang.
The following is an extremely important post found at Dean's World. The post is by Mary Madigan.
Up the road near the Bales Farmington Thriftway at 17675 SW Farmington Rd. Aloha, OR 97007, there is a liquor store that has been repeately vandalized. I believe the vandalism has been done by a gang led by Roger Weidner. If anyone has any information please email me.
This is sort of a plea for something and it comes somewhat from a view based on a personal experience. One of my favorite uncles had MS (Muscular Dystrophy). It is one of the most horrible diseases on the planet.
Before he developed MS he was lively, obnoxious (a cop but I forgive him for that) and one of my mother's big brothers who always nagged her to do right. (She had other brothers who nagged her to do right but they were never subjected to the indignities of a wheelchair).
It not only disables the person who suffers from it but it also disables the people who love the actual sufferer. It is difficult to deal with society on a usual basis when taking care of someone with MS. You want more than anything else for the person you love to get up and do their thing. You urge them on and on and then nothing happens.
Sometimes you start blaming God for this outrage upon your family.
There is a person who would like some prayers. This person has dealt with the horror of MS in his family. There is more information at this post at Talkleft.
In my younger days I was hitchhiking around the Western states of the US when I hitchhiked through a town and met a couple of women. They were extremely close friends. Unfortunately, one was confined to a wheelchair. The person who took care of the person who was in the wheelchair asked if I could help her out by giving her a break by taking care of the woman in the wheelchair. I said ok (I didn't have anything else to do).
The woman in the wheelchair, as well as her best friend, were two of the most intelligent, charming and sexiest women I have ever met. The person in the wheelchair felt bad about being in a wheelchair and kept apologizing for havng to have someone take care of her. I finally told her one day, "Look, if I'm going to take care of you at least let's make it interesting for the both of us, otherwise if you keep bitching and complaining and apologizing I'll just split and you can bitch about the situation to someone who doesn't care".
After I told her that she got pretty pissed off. But then she decided that she should have fun with me instead of giving me crap about how bad she felt that I was wheeling her around. We then started going out and she started having fun at normal things even though she was in a wheelchair.
Then one day she and her friend said they had decided to move to a beach near Los Angeles. They asked me if I would help them move. I said ok and once they had reached their destination they bid me farewell and I have never seen them since.
I've written before about pay problems facing Army reservists and how it causes hardships not only for the reservists but also for the people who depend on the pay, especially family members.
There was a recent comment left from a woman who is seeking help because of this problem. I don't know how to help her and I haven't yet figured out who she could call in order to alleviate this problem. I have come across more info on this problem, though, and it is below in excerpts from two stories. If anybody can help her, please post it in the comments section.
But before anybody reads the two excerpts below there is a website that helps some of the military wives and it is Militarywives.com. The website will put a person in touch with some support groups, I think. The website also has an interesting guestbook. There is also a website called Marine Corps Moms and while they're primarily concerned with problems facing Marines and members of the families of Marines, it is possible they might have some info that could help.
It seems a white supremacist member of the Christian Identity/Sovereign Citizen movement, Susan Detlefsen, was invited to teach some students at Cleveland, High School in Portland, Oregon. In particular, she was invited to speak to students in "Lynne Allers cultural anthropology class".
There's nothing intrinsically wrong with this. Anybody should be able to address a class from time to time. But, Susan Detlefsen, instead of telling the truth that for many years she has and still does (according to her small circle of cultists) follow the beliefs and the lifestyle of neo-nazis (see link above for background info), lied and said she was a true libertarian and proceeded to lie to the students even further that she could explain the political philosophy.
Susan Detlefsen is a liar and it's time for the students at Cleveland High to know about it. It's also time for the students to know that the juvenile courts of Multnomah County, Oregon consider her to be a danger to her teenage daughter because Susan wants to force her daughter to follow the insane rules of her cult leader, Roger Weidner.
I can't believe Electric Venom is bitching about somebody having six toys. My parents named me after a toilet so you know I'm having issues and I only got seven toys. I think. Actually, my friends stole all my toys so I probably only ended up with x-amount of toys minus a negative amount of 39 toys, which means I should be an accountant for somebody in organized crime.
Her post wasn't about having six toys. It was about having sex toys. Still, I'm having issues about being named after a toilet. I wonder whose toilet I was named after.
Once upon a time there was Jose Raul Capablanca. He was probably the greatest chess player until Bobby came along.
Of course, we also have Alekhine's Defense.
By the way you can download chess programs that respond with audio and everything else to spoken words. I believe they even tell you what moves the program makes, although I don't know why anybody would want to know that stuff. I always thought chess (strip chess) was a way to get college girls naked or have them knock you out with marble or wooden boards when they got pissed off about some trivial reason.
"What!!! You want me to get you a glass of wine when I'm about to make the winning move??!! Aaarrgghhh!!! How come I'm naked and you're not. Obviously you've been cheating. I secretly check the book 'How to Learn Chess Easily for Idiots' and you're still winning!!!"
I'm an old fashioned writer. I believe you should have three exclamation points after every sentence.
Begging to Differ brings up an interesting point in a post entitled "Somalian or German seafood".
I've lived in Spain and I now live in the Portland, Oregon tri-county area. I've had excellent and atrocious seafood in both places. In Spain, though, I think there is more of a variety of seafood for a number of reasons, including proximity to many bodies of water. I think many of the types of seafood in Spain are simply not viewed as anything most people in the Northwest would want to eat or would want to bother to prepare.
I've talked to people in this area about some of the seafood available in Spain and sometimes I would hear, "Ooh yuck, who would want to eat that?"
Then again, I know people who only eat salmon from Idaho.
Which brings up the point of this post. How do you make sauerbrauten?
FBI's I-Drives. I'm going to have to do some more research on the subject at the preceding link. As my four faithful, drunken readers in Joe's Saloon in the Virgin Islands know I spend some time exposing and ridiculing a gang of white supremacists here in Oregon. When my investigations led to a person, Jim Spinden, who managed to get himself elected sheriff of Washington County, Oregon some of the information that FBI agents had gathered from my website mysteriously started disappearing from their reports to Washington, DC.
It looks like an email list run by Spiesonline.net has been infiltrated by "Ruby Mountain" - flowkcalb_alpha@yahoo.com. Ruby Mountain is a member of the American Family Rights Association (AFRA). AFRA is run by Leonard Henderson, Pam Gaston, Roger Weidner and others in the white supremacist Christian Identity/Sovereign Citizen movement in Oregon.
It is possible that "Ruby Mountain" is

Today's lecture is entitled - The study of two words, "Principles and Principals".
My email program has crashed again while I was reinstalling it. This is dreadful, terrible, horrible because......I won't be able to get my daily spam. Whatever shall I do? If I don't get my daily spam I may starve to death. Aaaarrrggghhh!!!!
By the way I've copyrighted "aaarrrggghhh" so don't use it without my permission. You can use it if you throw in an extra "h" because I only copyrighted the word with three "h's". Of course, I'll still sue you anyway because I hate to see trial lawyers standing in the soup line.
Fredoneverything has such an interesting article that I'm going to put it all below.
America is sort of unique. America is a nation of individuals who, I hope, believe that an individual has the right to not be assaulted for believing in a religion. The following is important, I think. It's a good thing I don't have to ask Susan Detlefsen for permission to put something on my website because she would definitely nix the following.
I recently got a communication from a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy (or maybe he was an ex-Lieutenant Commander) telling me that if I didn't delink from his website he would take me to court. I said, "Ok" but I couldn't find the link he was talking about. I have thousands of links. How the hell am I supposed to know which one is his?
This is the link
I very rarely say anything negative about public officials. I do make a few jokes about them, though. Most of them are hard working individuals and they get enough flack from the media and Jack Bogdanski.
But every once in a while a person comes along who is so despicable and dishonest that I have to make some comments. I'm not going to mention his name because it's possible that Roger Weidner may have used some of his female gang members to gain control over this ex-elected official of Washington County, Oregon.
At least two of Roger's female gang members have bragged about having this ex-elected official under their control.
I got asked a question tonight. The question was, "Why don't you read your email?"
BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO.
This means I can view a post by Jack Bogdanski four times at the same time. Then when I get bored with Jack's posts I can view RoguePundit's posts longer.
Here in the First Congressional District of Oregon we have a rising political star. Her name is Goli Ameri. Goli Ameri is the founder and president of eTinium, a telecom consulting and market research firm specializing in the telecommunications market.
She is running as a Republican candidate for Congressional District Numero Uno. Her main opponent is David Wu.
You can reach her campaign website by clicking here. I'm voting for David Wu this time around, even though he never answers my emails, but I think in a couple of years time I might vote for Goli Ameri, if she runs again. Whether or not she wins this time around I hope she runs again.
The Guardian Unlimited has a story entitled "Britons secretly kept in postwar French camps. The following are some excerpts from the story".
Instapundit has a post and Michelle Malkin has a post about sleaze in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The following is an excerpt from the Instapundit post.
For years, mortgage giant Fannie Mae has produced smoothly growing earnings. And for years, observers have wondered how Fannie could manage its inherently risky portfolio without a whiff of volatility. Now, thanks to Fannie's regulator, we know the answer. The company was cooking the books. Big time.
The following is an excerpt from the post by Michelle Malkin.
Though it didn't quantify the effect of what it called pervasive misapplication of accounting rules on the company's books, the report by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight cited one instance in 1998 where the company inappropriately deferred $200 million of estimated expenses, which enabled management to receive full annual bonuses. Had Fannie recorded the expenses in 1998, no bonus would have been paid, the report said.
The report also detailed numerous transactions over several years where it said Fannie Mae management intentionally smoothed out gyrations in its earnings to show investors it was a low-risk company. Fannie "maintained a corporate culture that emphasized stable earnings at the expense of accurate financial disclosures," regulators said in a letter to the company.
Chief executive Franklin D. Raines and the board of directors were not singled out for blame, but the report criticized "a culture and environment that made these problems possible." It did name J. Timothy Howard, the company's vice chairman and chief financial officer, saying he "failed to provide adequate oversight" of key control and reporting functions and had jobs in which he both set earnings targets and then the accounting policies that could be used to meet them.
I think we should call a spade a spade and just say that a group of sleazy criminals gained control over Fannie Mae.
The following is an opinion from David Terry about Oregon measure 37. David Terry is a member of the Oregon Libertarian Party. I'm voting no on measure 37 for reasons I've stated at this link.
However, David Terry brings up some interesting points about why he is for measure 37. I'm going to post a letter he sent to a newspaper. I'm not going to post his phone number or his email address because I don't want spam bots to inundate him with crap. If you want to contact him in order to discuss the pro's and con's about measure 37 or if you want to contact him to discuss politics you can probably reach him through the Oregon Libertarian Party's website.
To the Editor:
The News-Register describes Measure 37 as an initiative "into which land use planning would disappear" and Merilyn Reeves concurs [letters 10/2]. We should be so lucky! Oregon, currently has the most restrictive, most intrusive land use laws in the nation. In fact there is no greater control exerted over private property anywhere this side of what used to be called the 'iron curtain'.
The arbitrary and capricious nature of the takings imposed upon legally disarmed property owners is reminiscent of those societies that existed prior to the establishment of constitutionally limited government and the right of citizens to due process before their property could be expropriated.
Ms. Reeves' claim that Measure 37 will increase government costs, may certainly be true. Criminal acts should cost the perpetrator. We have had, in this state a class of thieves, running amok, expropriating the value of other peoples
property without cost to themselves. Measure 37 will require that those that want to restrict the freedom of others to use their private property in otherwise legal and non-hostile activities should pay for their loss or inconvenience. On the otherhand, government does have the option of not imposing restrictions on private property and there will be no resultant costs incurred from leaving others and their property alone! The principle is simple: those who want to
use the property of others should pay for it. The majority of Oregonians understand this simple principle. Shoplifters,
pickpockets, burglars and the opponents of Measure 37, apparently don't!regards,
David Terry,
I wrote earlier about a candidate for office in Oregon who wanted me to censor my website. Her name is Susan Detlefsen. She is the only candidate who has asked me to take down material from my website.
Susan Detlefsen is a close associate of Roger Weidner, Leonard Henderson, Pam Gaston and others in the white supremacist Christian Identity/Sovereign Citizen movement in Oregon.
Susan is running as a libertarian. Imagine that, a libertarian candidate is the only candidate for public office in Oregon who has asked a person to censor a website that discusses politics. Folks, I urge a vote for Diane Rosenbaum for Oregon House District 42.
It seems some journalists are still not familiar with the white supremacist "Christian Identity/Sovereign Citizen" movement - AKA "the common law court movement" - in Oregon and its war against America, so the following is a little info from The Anti-Government Movement Guidebook.
One of the strange ideological beliefs of the "sovereign citizen" movement is that all government entities in America are corrupt and illegitimate.
I regularly read John Tabin. I even read his blog, so you know I don't have a life. John has an article up at The American Spectator about his reaction to the debates that's worth reading. This in turn leads to a logical progression. I have no idea what a logical progression is but, hey, check out the following paragraph.
DCGI.net has a roundup and provides links to various mainstream media and their take on the debate. Then again, so have a lot of other blogs. However, DCGI has written three sentences that I believe are somewhat exceptional and these three sentences should, I believe, be highlighted. They are:
And one constant theme that's surprising to see from sources like even the Globe: Kerry failed to substantially answer any question. He kept saying he'd be better. But he never told us how.
